The parish covers an area between
Great Dunmow, Thaxted and Takeley in Essex. It is
a rural parish with much arable farmland.
The population of the parish
is about 2,230 and growing; approximately 350 of those
being under the age of 18.

This show was historically held
by the Countess of Warwick, a former local landowner.
It has been revived and is now held annually over
the August Bank Holiday. This is the main fundraising
event of the year in aid of church funds and from
the shows held in the last two years the churches
have each received £5,000 for some expensive restoration
work that will be on-going over the next two/three
years. The churches are grateful to the Show Committee
for all their work throughout the year.
The show
took place this year on the 28th/29th August and a
write-up and photographs will be found on the show’s
website.

The Five Parishes is an inspirational
place to live and work. The tranquility of its rural
location makes it an ideal place to raise a family.
Living here, you would be at the heart of village
life, yet close to the wider facilities of local market
towns. Good communications give easy access to larger
towns and cities for anything not available locally.
The churches
There are four working churches
in the Parish, of different sizes and styles. These
are kept in good structural and decorative condition
and the churchyards are well maintained.
The church doors are kept unlocked
to encourage locals, visitors and private worship.
Our churches are popular with
tourists and have been mentioned in several books
on English churches and in guides to the area.

of our churches.

There are strong links between church and school,
with services held in both school and church. Assemblies
are taken fortnightly by Canon Ivy and our Rural Dean,
Revd Cilla Hawkes, and a service of Holy Communion
once a term. A number of church members are Governors
at the school.
In conjunction with the charity

our income comes from wedding and funeral fees.

how much is coming in so that we can pay the monthly
bills.

which people can give systematically:
